Student’s Corner – July 2010

Posted on July 14, 2010

The 6th World Congress of Biomechanics is only a few weeks away. For those of you attending, I would like to invite you to participate in the ISB Student Event which will be held during the lunch break on Tuesday 3 August. The event will be a mentoring luncheon in which you will have the opportunity to speak with senior researchers regarding specific research areas, grant writing, finding the right post-doc or employment opportunities, or anything else you wish. This event is designed to be very casual and is an excellent opportunity to meet researchers and other students. The event is open to current ISB Student Members only. Please email me if you would like to attend the event or if you have any questions. Space may be limited so please email me as soon as possible if you would like to attend. In your email, please include your full name (surname and given name) and if there is a specific topic or concern that you would like to discuss at the event.

In other news, I am continuing to work on the web-based Mentoring Program and hope to have the changes up and running very soon. I am also making plans to update the Student Section of the ISB website. New items will include a Conference Connection section in which you will be able to look for roommates at conferences or organize meeting places and social events. Post-doc Classifieds, Biomechanics Current Events, translation assistance and a Biomechanics Help Guide for abstract writing, grant writing, etc. will also be added.

Please let me know if you have any comments or concerns. I also welcome suggestions for the ISB Student Event at the WCB, the web-base Mentoring program, or any program you wish to see implemented for ISB students.

Take care,
Allison Gruber
ISB Student Representative
